Hi, we are planning on buying the combined railway and sky rail ticket. We plan on starting the trip by rail. We would like to start in cairns but this does not seem an option on the ticket. Can you please provide details on the hotel transfers / catching the train from Cairns.

Hi the train leaves from Cairns Central Railway Station which is where I caught it, their website is confusing.
How long does the return from Kuranda take when using the skyrail back down? I'm catching a flight out of Cairns at 6:30pm - what time would you recommend I get the skyrail?

It tends to be very busy mid afternoon as many travel on the Queensland Rail Kuranda Tourist Train to Kuranda, but return on the Skyrail. You don't say if your flight is international or domestic, but I'd want to be on the Skyrail by2pm if yours is an international flight and 3.30pm if a domestic flight, assuming that you have your luggage with you and there's no major deviation required to a hotel prior to arriving at the airport.
What regular transport is available from Smithfield Terminal parking lot to Freshwater Station? Cost per person?

Not sure. I know there is a free bus service from Smithfield to central station and I recall it stops at Freshwater as well. It is free with your train ticket
