A line had already formed outside the Imperial Palace grounds before 9 a.m. on March 25 to admit visitors eager to view majestic cherry blossom trees, despite steady rain and windy conditions.

One of Japan's busiest tourist seasons is underway, with cherry blossoms in full bloom in large parts of the country. Visitors from around the world have long flocked to Japan at this time of year.
