2005年4月13日 · Wondering what suggestions the pros might have for basement ceilings. I would like to avoid a true drop ceiling because of the loss in headroom, but I don't necessarily want to just put up drywall because of the sound transmission - the basement will be rented out, so the more isolated, acoustically, I can make the upstairs and downstairs, the better.

This makes finishing an unfinished basement more of a hassle. In these cases I can’t decide what is best to frame in the walls that run parallel to joists. Do I tear out all the drywall in the basement?

2011年3月21日 · I'm in the midst of a basement remodel, and today the HO's "Master Designer" (furniture store rep) was telling me about a type of suspended ceiling I haven't encountered. He said that it uses the standard 2x4 or 2x2 tiles, but the grid is fastened directly to the ceiling joists--which of course can gain you an extra 3" or so in height.

2010年2月24日 · hmmmmm, so leaving an unfinished ceiling is safer then by how your wording it....so by your thought process and admission, i should've just left the ceiling exposed like it had been for the past 30yrs that way if there was a fire since the house was built, it woulda held off longer than if a ceiling of any kind was installed.

2024年11月5日 · A big builder built my house. The blue print calls for a 9' foundation wall and 3" concrete slab, and also shows an unfinished ceiling height of 8' 9". Mathematically this makes sense to me. However as I am measuring the windows for curtains, I noticed that the basement ceiling height is about 1.5" short of the stated 8' 9" in blueprints.

He would like a drywall ceiling but there is so much ducting,beams,pipes,shut-offs,etc., that I doubt if I can get up one full sheet without framing the whole ceiling down. He really doesn't like suspended ceilings because they look like offices.
