Chilo suppressalis is present in Hawaii and was first found in 1927. Rice production was already starting to decline in Hawaii prior to this discovery. This discovery, however, is thought to have hastened the decline of the rice industry in Hawaii (USDA, 1957).
The Asiatic rice borer, Chilo suppressalis (Walker), is one of the most important pests of rice in East Asia, India, and Indonesia; it has also been introduced to Spain and Hawaii.
