Represention of black and dark-skinned characters in One Piece
That aside, I always thought One Piece did a decent job portraying black characters with varying personalities/back stories/representation. Also, a lot of the One Piece characters look like islanders with different shades of skintone and they tend to be a varied mix of people with some of them having a bit of african blood in them, like Jozu.

Now, earlier in the series there were more black characters than now, but, in defense of the newer sagas, there have been plenty of make believe species that have appeared so that foes cut into the "ethnicities" of the characters a good amount I think.
