Ionic compounds are compounds formed between a metal and nonmetal which have a crystalline lattice structure. They can conduct electricity and are usually highly water soluble. Ionic compounds tend to be crystalline structures with high melting points that are water soluble. Covalent bonds are highly stable bonds with low melting points.
