2016年3月31日 · A bit late but maybe you will find this useful. I have failed at many many tail vein injections and it certainly requires a heap of practice. But one thing that really worked for me was to warm up the tail with a warm wet piece of cloth for about 30-45 seconds. Then right before the injection press the top of the tail just a bit and release.

As an alternate, you may want to consider retro-orbital injections. I was never able to get better than ~70% efficiency with tail vein injections, but I get close to 100% with retro orbital. I haven't had a mouse die or incomplete delivery in a few months (better than 100 mice).

Tail may clear white locally to the injection site and feel turgid. Get a new needle, your cutting edge is probably dulled. Too deep and hit bone or interstitium. You can force in like 25-50 ul but it's extremely high resistance. Might see a bump. Tail is rotated but needle angle doesn't compensate for it so you do a lateral through and through.

2019年10月25日 · Stay calm, work your way up if you think you’ll need multiple sticks to hit the vein, starting from about halfway down up to the base of the tail. Go slow. You’ll feel it slide easy if you’re in, don’t push against any resistance because that means you aren’t in the vein. Don’t aspirate to check for blood, their vessels are too small.

2021年3月30日 · I was watching as our technician injected 100ul of liposomes into the tail vein of a mouse. The mouse went completely limp within 10 or so seconds, and so we culled the mouse immediately by cervical dislocation, assuming an adverse effect. The injection seemed fine, she definitely hit the vein.

2024年6月29日 · Tail vein is hard enough for injections; blood draw just sounds needlessly tricky. If you must do tail vein, use the heat lamp on the cage while you prep everything, then as you pull out each one, use a hot hands pad on their tail to dilate the vessel as much as possible before wiping with alcohol and poking.

2024年6月24日 · Yea I injected the mice with AAV9-GFP and I wiped the tail with ethanol before and after injection. I felt no resistance while doing the injection and it was smooth while administering as well. I looked at them last week too and they were good. I was preparing to isolate them this coming Thursday but sadly they all passed today. ☹️
