2012年12月30日 · I wonder who actually forged the various Marshall Wells axe heads and tools? Your axe is a beauty, I have one too, it was my favorite axe. Used it to help build a 12X15 log cabin in 1976, I found the old head and used a cut off ash oar for a handle, a little longer than normal. Could cut those white cedars down pretty fast.

2013年7月2日 · This is a good stamp to look for. Swedish Axe Wetterlings. Collins, Homestead (Collins), Kelly Axe (True Temper), Council Tool (usually has a CT mark somewhere), Elwell (an English Brand), Iltis Oxhead. All major US makers had a paper label. I’ll agree they are cheaper than stamped heads.

I'd rather buy a Chinese axe in good shape than an American Black Raven head with the toe worn back an inch further than the heel. If the eye is distorted or the poll smashed you have to decide how much work you want to put into it.

2013年12月3日 · Yes they are decent axe heads. They were the cheap import of their day though. They are right in line with average quality that they competed against. They did make a premium line that had every axe Rockwell tested but I don't know if it was just gimmick or was an actual premium axe. Can't say for sure if I ever owned one.
