A level spreader is an erosion control device designed to reduce water pollution by mitigating the impact of high-velocity stormwater surface runoff. It is used both on construction sites and for permanent applications such as drainage for roads and highways .
Level spreading devices diffuse flows (both low and high), promote infiltration, and improve water quality by evenly distributing flows over a stabilized vegetated surface. There are many different types and functions of level spreaders. Examples include concrete sills (or lips), curbs, earthen berms, and level perforated pipes.
